The Gastein valley and its towns
The Gastein valley
is the longest side valley of the Hohe Tauern and is famous worldwide for its thermal springs. It borders the Grossarltal and the Raurisertal as well as the state of Carinthia in the south. The entrance to "Gastein" begins with the Gastein gorge. The gorge was first accessible in the 16th century by horse-drawn wagons. Today, the Gastein vacation region with Dorfgastein, Bad Hofgastein, and Bad Gastein in the heart of SalzburgerLand is a sought-after vacation spot: right here where crystal-clear, healing thermal water has bubbled up from its source in the Hohe Tauern for centuries and where hospitality and friendliness will make the best days of the year even better.
Dorfgastein
A town of peacefulness and tranquility, which is able to maintain its small-town character with endearing customs, mountain romance, and a cozy friendliness without losing any of its moderness. Anyone used to saying"Dorf" instead of Dorfgastein is certain to be a native or someone with deep local roots. North of Dorfgastein is Mayerhofen and to the west is the Gasteiner Ache in Unterberg. Luggau, which is south of Dorfgastein, is the oldest of all the villages.
Bad Hofgastein
Our small town in the middle of the valley is a town with variety nestled in the idyll of the Gastein mountains. A vast range of recreational offers from wellness in the Alpen Therme Gastein to mini golf, horseback riding, biking, and hiking, or participation in the many cultural events will make your vacation in Bad Hofgastein unforgettable. Harbach - Laderding - Breitenberg are located north of Bad Hofgastein and Lafen - Hundsdorf and Gadaunern to the south.
The Weitmoserschlössl - previous home of the Goldegger family - reminds us today of the prosperity of the Gastein valley and members of the miner's union - who lived here in the prime of gold mining. Interest in the past and the cultivation of traditions is very important in today's Gastein valley. The former gold mining boom is remembered with pompous festivals such as the Weitmoserfest and the Via Aurea event series – the week of Tauern gold.
Bad Gastein
A town with a romantic ambiance located on the Graukogel and Stubnerkogel.
In the middle of the romance of the Belle Époque, you will find impressive waterfalls and healing springs, which can be visited on a tour, and not far from the city center, the Gastein Heilstollen provide new strength, and the Felsen Therme Gastein invites you to enjoy wellness. At the stylish Casino Bad Gastein, maybe you can end your night with a bit of luck.
Sportgastein
was first developed after the construction of the new Nassfeld alpine road as a ski area. Previously, there was no toll road, and a long path, which still exists today, had to be used. Today, the Nassfelder alpine road (toll station), built between 1969 and 1972, leads into Nassfeld (large parking lot) to allow national park visitors as well as winter tourists a view of the magnificent landscape. Today, Sportgastein is a hiking paradise in summer and is an insider's skiing tip with a guarantee of snow from winter to spring.
